Assisted Living FAQs

Our goal is to improve your life, making every day easier. Here, you’ll find assisted living in Peachtree City that eliminates the burden of living alone and owning a home and everything that comes with it. That includes maintenance, yard work, and even housekeeping.

We’ll work with you and your situation, regardless of the challenges you face physically or emotionally. Heritage of Peachtree’s assisted living community is a safe, supportive environment. Our expert team is available to help you with daily tasks like getting dressed, bathing, and managing your medication.

When Is the Right Time for Assisted Living?

Many older adults enjoy assisted living because it allows them to be a part of a community, participate in social events and have an organized living space without having to worry about the hassles of homeownership like additional upkeep and bills.

Assisted living is also beneficial because it allows people to remain as independent as possible while they receive a little boost of help to complete routine tasks. But – how do you know if your loved one is in need of this level of care? There are a few indicators to be on the lookout for to determine whether or not assisted living in Peachtree City is the right choice:

  • They might forget to take their medication. One advantage of assisted living is that residents don’t have to remember minor details. How? Because someone is there to gently remind them of daily tasks and activities, like taking their medication at a certain time.
  • They have become more vulnerable to falls recently. This could be because of mobility issues or underlying medical conditions.
  • Their weight is fluctuating. A decrease in weight can be a sign that they are no longer eating enough because they are having a more difficult time getting groceries or forgetting to eat meals. On the other hand, weight gain could indicate they currently have an unhealthy diet due to the foods available to them or are eating more meals due to bouts of forgetfulness. Assisted living communities provide nutritionally balanced, fun, and social dining experiences.
  • They could use some assistance around the house. Taking care of a home is a lot of work. Assisted living provides them with a new place to live and all the maintenance and housekeeping help they need.
  • They spend all their time alone. Everyone mentally and physically benefits from socialization. Assisted living is a community that will introduce them to others who share their interests and provide activities they will enjoy.
  • There has been a change in hygiene. For example, they may not be bathing because it is too difficult to do, or they forget. They may also wear dirty clothes because they struggle to do the laundry. Assisted living helps them with these daily tasks so that they can focus on other things.

If assisted living doesn’t seem like the right fit for your loved one, don’t worry – there are other options. They could, for example, relocate to an independent retirement or senior community. Independent living communities provide the same benefits for socialization but do not support everyday activities. Or, if assisted living isn’t the best fit due to a need for a deeper level of care for memory problems or a diagnosis of dementia, a senior living community with memory care such as Heritage of Brookstone or Heritage of Sandy Plains could be the best option.

How Much Does Assisted Living Cost?

The price of assisted living can vary depending on several factors, including the specific assisted living community and level of daily assistance needed. For example, at Heritage of Peachtree, we do not require an upfront deposit in the monthly cost of our assisted living community in Georgia. Instead, there is a one-time community fee of $3,200. After that, the monthly price starts at just $3,625.

Unfortunately, Medicare does not cover these expenses. There are some exceptions, such as short-term medically necessary stays. The family should contact their supplemental health insurance provider to assess what portion of the cost they would help offset.

In many cases, it will come down to personal assets to cover the costs. This can include items such as:

  • Profits from the sale of real estate and other assets. You could take out a short-term loan while you liquidate.
  • Withdrawal of retirement funds, often without penalty. There may also be tax breaks available to help offset the cost of care.
  • Savings
  • 401K life insurance
  • Insurance for long-term care
  • Contributions from relatives
  • Employee or veteran benefits
  • Social security and pensions

If there is a significant amount of property or funds to consider, it may be wise to consult with a financial advisor. This will enable you to make more informed decisions and maximize your tax advantages.

When retirement and savings run out, one must look for alternative sources of funding. Medicaid is unable to cover assisted living in most cases, but there are several factors to consider – a social worker or care coordinator can help with the details.

What is Included in an Assisted Living Community?

Typically, assisted living communities are all-inclusive, so the monthly fee includes food and living expenses. Assistance with daily tasks may raise the monthly cost. Those in assisted living may also have access to additional services such as a barber or salon, a podiatrist, security and monitoring, as well as social programs and entertainment.

Our community offers a variety of amenities, including:

  • Wellness
  • programs that are tailored to the residents’ needs
  • The media room
  • Community gatherings for socialization
  • Courtyards with paths for walking
  • Health monitoring is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • System of emergency response
  • Housekeeping

  • 24-hour security
  • Fitness
  • Pets are welcome

We take a holistic approach in our Georgia assisted living community. Our program focuses on caring for the whole person, as opposed to focusing on specific issues. By providing holistic services, we help our residents create social relationships while achieving their personal goals.

How to Have the Talk With a Parent About Assisted Living in Peachtree City

Having a conversation with your loved one about whether or not it’s time to move into an assisted living community can be a difficult task. Before you have the talk, it’s important to gather as much information as possible about the best assisted living communities in your area. You can do this by doing research online, gathering helpful documents and brochures, touring an assisted living facility and speaking with the staff.

Additionally, it’s also helpful to…

  • Have a conversation with other family members to ensure others have noticed the signs that it may be time for your loved one to move into an assisted living community. The more help you have, the more likely your parent(s) will listen to what you have to say.
  • Use active listening during this discussion to ensure that the conversion is not one-sided. Discuss your worries with your loved one, and how you intend to improve their quality of life. Go over the amenities offered by a senior living community to show them what a nice time it can be to live in a community with others who share similar interests. Make a point of emphasizing the benefits rather than your parent’s age.

Changing Care When Necessary

One of the most common concerns family members have when considering assisted living communities is what will happen if a loved one’s needs for care changes?

The typical care progression is as follows:

  • Independent living
  • Assisted living
  • Memory care

At our assisted living community in Peachtree City, we offer only one level of care. We can work with you to make a plan for changing care when the time comes, though. In addition, our staff can answer any questions you might have about looking for long-term skilled nursing services or memory care.
